Myths about Hypnosis.

What is Clinical Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy takes advantage of the capabilities and potential of the subconscious mind to allow therapeutic changes to happen.

It uses imagery and positive suggestions made by the therapist to help you create new positive realities for yourself.

The most common use of hypnotherapy is to help with problems such as obesity, smoking, pain, anxiety, stress, amnesia, phobias and performance but many other things can also be treated by hypnosis, including some ‘physical’ disorders such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Asthma.

Today Clinical Hypnotherapy is recognised as one of the most effective complimentary therapies. It can produce dramatic results for many problems and issues.

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis has been described as an altered state of consciousness or deep relaxation that you allow yourself to enter with the help of the therapist.

However it's not the same as being asleep as you are aware of what's going on around you at all times, there is no loss of control and there are no side affects.

Its a bit like the feeling you have just before you fall asleep or as you wake up in the morning, some people describe it as like being in a daydream. It is a state that most people have experienced at some time or another; for example if you get very involved or absorbed in a book or film you may feel as if you are there.

In this state of relaxation you are more able to respond to suggestions and ideas that are going to help you.

Is Hypnotherapy safe?

Hypnotherapy and hypnosis is completely safe. You are in control and fully aware of everything that is happening around you all the time, no one can make you do things you do not wish to.
You do not go to sleep; this would defeat the object as you have to be awake to absorb the helpful suggestions made by the therapist.

Can I be Hypnotised?

All hypnosis is self hypnosis; the therapist merely helps you to achieve the required state of deep relaxation for yourself.
So provided you are willing to follow simple suggestions made by the therapist you can be hypnotised.

What is NLP?

NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) is an advanced technique that helps you master the way you think and feel.

Using NLP we can help you to change your mental, emotional and/or physical state of well being and control your behavioural patterns to overcome phobias, stop smoking, boost your motivation, help with weight loss and improve your health.

What is EFT?

EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) is a unique version of acupuncture except you don't use needles. Instead, you stimulate well established energy meridian points on your body by tapping on them with your fingertips. Hence it's common name of  'Tapping'.

Some Myths about Hypnosis:

You can be hypnotised and made to do things against your will: False. Nobody can be hypnotised against their will; the therapist merely helps you to achieve the required state of deep relaxation for yourself. So provided you are willing to follow simple suggestions made by the therapist you can become hypnotised. You must be 100% co-operative in order to be hypnotised and under Hypnosis you can choose to accept or reject any suggestions given to you by the hypnotist.

Hypnosis is dangerous: Untrue.

It is quite the opposite. Hypnosis is a safe and natural process. Being hypnotised is a very pleasant experience. Clients comment that they feel relaxed, safe and very calm.

Under hypnosis you are unconscious: Not true.

Under Hypnosis you are awake and completely aware. After all it would be pointless the therapist giving you helpful suggestions if you weren't awake to hear them.

Under hypnosis, you can be made to reveal your secrets: Again False.

As mentioned above, under hypnosis the subject is fully alert and in full control of what they do and say. The hypnotist can guide the client to remember forgotten memories and reveal them only if the client wishes to do so.

You can get stuck in Hypnosis: False.

Even if the hypnotist leaves the room after you enter Hypnosis, you will either open your eyes after not hearing his voice for a while or you will slip into a brief sleep and awaken normally.

The user might become dependent on hypnosis: Untrue.

You cannot become dependent upon hypnosis because it has no physical effects on the body. Many people look forward to their hypnotherapy sessions because they become totally relaxed and awaken refreshed.
